The report provided concrete recommendations to fishing companies on how they could improve their systems and processes for managing fishing gear. It highlighted the critical role that marine certification standards play in driving higher standards across the industry.

We brought together a group of large institutional investors to formally write to the Marine Stewardship Council to encourage it to formally integrate ghost gear into its certification standards. We are currently working with World Animal Protection and the Global Ghost Gear Initiative to develop a practical guide and online training course for seafood companies on how they might manage ghost gear. These materials will be released in 2020.
