MEDIA RELEASE
GEMMA JAMES JOINS CHRONOS SUSTAINABILITY TO LEAD BIODIVERSITY AND NATURE
London, 22 February 2022, Chronos Sustainability (“Chronos”), the award-winning global sustainability advisory firm, has named Gemma James as Senior Manager, Biodiversity and Nature. In this newly-created role, Gemma will lead the firm’s biodiversity and nature programmes with both investors and with companies.
Gemma joins Chronos from the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) where, as Senior Lead and previously Head of Environmental Issues, she was responsible for overseeing investor initiatives, research and engagement on environmental themes including plastics, biodiversity and water. Prior to the PRI, Gemma worked for the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), where she focussed on environmental and climate change issues.
Gemma’s appointment reflects Chronos’ continued growth and a sustained demand from clients including financial institutions (banks, investors, insurers), corporates and non-governmental organisations for biodiversity and nature-led engagement, research and interventions.
Dr Rory Sullivan, CEO, Chronos Sustainability, said: “Our clients are increasingly recognising the significant risks posed by biodiversity loss, and the importance of taking meaningful and systemic action to protect and enhance biodiversity. Gemma’s expertise in biodiversity, water and environmental issues, together with her deep knowledge of investment research and decision-making, will allow us to deliver more of the highly-tailored, action-orientated programmes this important issue demands. We’re delighted to welcome her to the Chronos team.”
Nicky Amos, Managing Director of Chronos Sustainability, added: “We are committed to playing a meaningful role in responding to the challenges presented by global biodiversity loss. Attracting the highest level of global expertise is critical to delivering on this commitment. Gemma’s appointment, given her knowledge of biodiversity and of the finance sector, will enable us to significantly scale up our efforts in this area.”
Gemma James, Senior Manager, Biodiversity and Nature, Chronos Sustainability, commented:
“Protecting our ecosystems, preserving biodiversity and working with nature are fundamental to the sustainability of our planet. Investors, companies and policy makers can play a significant role in tackling key issues, if they are clear about the actions they can take. Chronos is acutely aware of this and has established a track record of mobilising stakeholders to deliver impact. This role represents not only the opportunity to help amplify Chronos’ work on biodiversity and nature but also provides a platform to continue my professional sustainability journey to making a meaningful difference in delivering systemic change.”
