MEDIA RELEASE

Chronos Sustainability boosts biodiversity and nature team with agriculture and analyst hires

London, 26 September 2023, Chronos Sustainability (“Chronos”), the award-winning global sustainability advisory firm, has announced two new appointments to its biodiversity and nature team.  Laura Fox joins as Manager, Agriculture and Biodiversity, and Anna Hattam takes the role of Research Analyst

Laura Fox is an accomplished biodiversity adviser with more than 15 years’ experience in the private and nonprofit sectors. She specialises in the integration of the business and investment case for biodiversity in the agricultural sector and joins Chronos from Globalbalance where, as a senior associate, she was responsible  for agricultural supply chain mapping, benchmarking biodiversity data sources and analysing corporate and investment risks and opportunities linked to biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Laura will report to Chronos’ head of biodiversity and nature, Gemma James, and will support the design, development and execution of the firm’s agriculture, biodiversity and nature-based programmes.

Gemma James, head of biodiversity and nature, Chronos Sustainability, said: “Biodiversity is one of the fastest-growing themes for companies and investors who are committed to sustainability and the net zero transition.  Agriculture is an important sector in addressing biodiversity and nature loss and in practice many companies and investors are struggling to align their efforts on these themes. Laura’s work will enable our clients to properly integrate their strategies on biodiversity, nature and agriculture.”

Anna Hattam joins Chronos following completion of her studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science. As research analyst, she will work with the biodiversity and nature team to provide quantitative and qualitative data-led insights and support the delivery of Chronos’ client programmes.

Dr Rory Sullivan, CEO, Chronos Sustainability, said: “Many of our corporate and investor clients, despite having well-established sustainability programmes, are struggling with the tensions and trade-offs between different environmental and social issues. Current examples include climate change and the just transition, and biodiversity and agriculture. Our biodiversity and nature team – with the team having deep expertise in issues such as land management, water, conservation and human rights- has been established to help   investors and companies navigate these issues and to scale up their sustainability efforts. Bringing Laura and Anna to the team boosts our expertise and our ability to support companies and investors.  We are delighted they have chosen to join us.”

Chronos’ dedicated biodiversity and nature team was created in early 2022 and is headed by Gemma James with expert support from Dr Rebecca Drury. The team provides  technical insight and practical solutions to enable clients including financial institutions, companies and non-governmental organisations to take clear action through biodiversity and nature-led engagement, research and interventions.  Laura and Anna’s appointments are the latest in a series of strategic hires for Chronos as it continues to scale-up its business and deliver its purpose of moving the world towards a more sustainable future.
